Learning and Living Our Faith
Sacred Heart Catholic School strives to provide each student with a positive Catholic learning environment starting with our Faith Formation program. Parents are recognized as the primary educators of their children. The mission of Sacred Heart Catholic School is to show our students what it means to be a Catholic today. We firmly believe that our first and most important responsibility is to teach our faith well so that the light of God’s love is alive and growing in our students. We do this by:
A highlight of our school day is our daily gathering in the morning for announcements, recognitions, singing and prayer.
Prayer is an integral part of all that we do, whether it is getting ready for lunch, ending our day, or beginning a meeting. Religion classes are held daily in all grades.
Mass is celebrated weekly and on Holy Days when school is in session. Weekly Mass celebrations often focus on the feast days of Saints and Martyrs and are used as an opportunity to learn more about the people and traditions of our faith.
Praying the rosary is a vital part of our faith curriculum classes. Kindergarteners and new students make their own rosary and use it through all their years at Sacred Heart. Rosary meditations are planned and led by individual classes.
Students are prepared for their First Confession and First Holy Communion in the second grade.
Liturgical celebrations such as Advent and Lent are woven into the curriculum. Various activities are planned and led by students.
Students have the opportunity to go to confession on a regular basis.
Perpetual Adoration has been a part of Sacred Heart Parish since September of 1986. Students in grades five through eight have the opportunity to spend time in the Adoration Chapel each week.
Students begin at a young age to be involved in community service activities, with the hope that as they become adults, participation will be a natural part of their lives. Activities may include the Food Bank program, Father Taaffe Dinner, baby item, coat, and blanket drives, and helping with parish dinners. Our pastor, principal, parish staff, faculty, and parents work together to make the spiritual life of our school rich and full of meaning. In all grades, a reverence for prayer is evident. While the majority of our students are Catholic, non-Catholic families are very active in the Sacred Heart community, attesting to the feeling of acceptance and mutual support found at our school.
