The Key to the Future

Sacred Heart Catholic School provides a challenging, meaningful, and relevant curriculum in all subject areas, incorporating and integrating Catholic attitudes, values and actions.  We provide children with authentic, real life projects to help them become life-long learners in the real world.  We do this with the realization that religious formation is relevant in the context of real life experiences, and in the development of the whole child.  We also realize that a child develops best within the context of a family.  Our purpose is to facilitate development through home/school communication and relevant homework assignments.

Sacred Heart Catholic School is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and the Western Catholic Education Association.  The school undertook a rigorous self-evaluation over the course of the past two years as part of the accreditation process.  A School Improvement Action Plan is examined and evaluated yearly as a means of keeping the curriculum updated to help all students progress toward the Schoolwide Learning Expectations.

Sacred Heart Catholic School has combination classes for grades first through eighth which means that 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 are together.  Kindergarten is a self-contained class of no more than 15 students and is a full time program. Curriculum instruction is aligned with the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon Elementary Schools Curriculum Guides.  The staff works together to make sure the educational needs of each student are met.

The success of each student is assured by working with students individually, working closely with parents to assist them in helping their children with homework, and by adjusting assignments to fit the needs of individual children.  Our goal is to have a variety of learning experiences to make learning meaningful and relevant for each student.  Each teacher works to create lessons that actively engage students in their learning, meeting diverse learning styles.

Textbooks are reviewed and updated on a rotating basis.  Each year the administration and faculty complete an in-depth study of one area of the curriculum, including a look at the currently used text series following the schedule provided by the Archdiocese of Portland.
